This month, my brother Alex, married Sorrel, his partner of 15 years. They had a beautiful ceremony with immediate family at Rugby Registry office, followed by a garden party at Keith and Carrie’s (Sorrel’s Dad’s) the next day for all of their family and friends. It was everything a wedding celebration should be, and more.
Bride and groom prep usually involves the photographer turning up to capture the bride (and sometimes groom) before the ceremony and all the excitement that goes with that. However, when you have a 2.5 year old and have been together for 15 years, the focus can sometimes change and Alex and Sorrel’s wedding morning was a more relaxed family affair. Their son Gilbert was doing the hoovering (his favourite thing to do) and watching the bin men collect the dustbins, which is also another favourite thing to do and my Mum and I were helping Alex put the wine, food and fizz out for later. Sorrel had been out to have her hair and make up done and she looked beautiful with fresh flowers in her hair and wearing a stunning floral dress. The boys both looked pretty dapper too!
Alex, Sorrel and Gilbert all arrived together at the registry office and as Gilbert played with his bin lorry, he watched his mummy and daddy say “i do”. He also did a cracking job as ring bearer and even managed to heckle my husband as he did a reading! Afterwards, we went back to their house for bread, cheese and fizz. It was perfect.
Celebrations continued the next day in Keith garden and in between the rain and the wind, the sun shone. Keith’s band, “The Hatstand Band” filled the garden with beautiful happy music and children played and danced and ate ice cream sweets and candy floss and got muddy. There were outdoor games and a bouncy castle and a trampoline and even an orchard for scrumping. It was a truly magical weekend filled with love and laughter and I wish Alex and Sorrel a lifetime of happiness together.
